Tutorful helps you teach without the usual admin of private tuition. We manage your bookings and payments so you can focus on teaching. This guide gives you a quick overview of how it all works.
Lessons
All meetings and lessons are booked through our system, so both you and your students get timely reminders, and each session goes ahead as planned.
If your profile is live, we recommend downloading our app on your phone or tablet to manage bookings and reply to messages on the go. It’s free on the App Store and Google Play Store.
Payments
All lesson payments go through Tutorful and are paid into your registered bank account by our payment provider, Stripe.
- We take payment from your student 24 hours after each lesson goes ahead.
- Stripe has a 7-day processing period, so you’ll usually receive payment 8-9 days after the lesson.
- Payments can take longer over weekends, as some banks process transactions on Monday morning, or if there’s an issue with a student’s payment.
We guarantee payment for all lessons booked and confirmed in our system. If a payment issue arises, we’ll contact you to resolve it.
Jobs
As well as direct enquiries, you can access requests posted by students on our Jobs board. It’s a useful way to find new tutoring opportunities and expand your student base.
If you can’t take on new students right now, you can go offline. This temporarily hides your profile from search results and preserves your current position until you’re ready.
Search result position
Once your profile is live, your dashboard shows where you appear in search results for your top subjects. This is how we rank tutors. Only you can see it; students can’t.
To improve your position:
- Keep your availability accurate.
- Respond promptly to all student enquiries.
- Encourage students to leave reviews.
- Use the Jobs board, choosing jobs that match your expertise.
Online teaching
Every lesson takes place online on our online classroom, so there’s no travel time or cost. You can use a demo version of the classroom to plan lessons before teaching live.
