How do I get my profile to the top of the search results?

Modified on Fri, 24 Jul at 2:04 PM

Your search position is driven mainly by your engagement with the platform: how successful your student relationships are, how active you are, and how up to date your profile is. Results are personalised per student, so the right tutor for one may not be the right tutor for another.

Respond quickly to enquiries

The faster you reply, the more likely a student is to book. Tutors who respond within an hour secure bookings at a much higher rate. Aim to reply within 24 hours at the latest. Quick responses positively affect your position.

Build long, successful relationships

Book more lessons and follow up with students who pause or are undecided. Some students only want one lesson, which is fine and won’t hurt your position; teaching them is better than ignoring the request.

Ask for reviews

Reviews help new students judge you before making contact. We prompt students automatically after every third lesson, and we recommend asking too.

Perform well on the Job Board

We assess your Job Board performance. Applying for every job and then quoting above what a customer will pay hurts your position, as it’s a poor experience and blocks more suitable tutors. Strong job performance boosts your ranking. If you have enough work and don’t use the Job Board, your position isn’t penalised. The board is useful for a new subject or boosting a specific subject.

Keep your availability accurate

Students want a tutor who’s free when they are. Accurate availability brings better-matched enquiries. If a relationship mismatches because you weren’t actually free at a time you marked available, that hurts your position. Repeat offenders may be reviewed by our Tutor Quality team and removed.

Mark when students achieve their goal

When a relationship ends, mark it as “student achieved their goal” (their grade, confidence, or overall satisfaction). This feeds your ranking.

Keep interactions positive

Sentiment signals from your platform messages feed the algorithm, so keep conversations positive and professional.

A note on timing

Search results update daily. If you’ve been offline, your stats may not show immediately, and you may not appear in results straight away when you go live. Allow 24 hours after setting your account live for stats to update.
