Keyword search lets students find tutors with specific expertise, experience, qualities, or qualifications that go beyond the standard filters of subject, price, and availability. Students match on words that appear in your bio, so a complete, honest bio does the work for you.
How students search
When a student starts searching, we guide them through short questions about their goals, preferences, and requirements, then personalise the results so the best matches appear at the top. On the results page, they can refine further with filters and Keyword Search.
Examples of keywords students use
- Genres or subcategories within a subject: a music student might search “Jazz” or “Rock”.
- Exam boards and qualifications: a student wanting a GCSE Maths tutor with AQA experience might search “AQA”.
- Tutor qualities: a student might search “Friendly”, “Patient”, or “Kind”.
The results prioritise tutors whose bio contains the keyword.
How to optimise your profile
You don’t need to do anything new. If your profile is up to date and informative, the keyword feature does the heavy lifting. Make sure your bio includes:
- Specific areas you’re knowledgeable in within a subject (for example “Creative Writing” or “Poetry” in English, or “Vocabulary” for a language).
- Any exam boards you’ve marked for or taught towards.
- Any experience teaching children or young people who need extra support or an advanced programme.
Stay honest in your bio. The feature helps students find tutors who self-declare the qualities they want, so claims you can’t back up will lead to poor experiences.
