Your public profile is your chance to advertise yourself to students. The better your profile, the more likely it is that a student will choose you to be their tutor. Below are some areas to consider when making improvements to your profile.

1 - Your Profile Picture

While students are not choosing a tutor based solely on their photograph, it is your chance to make a good first impression! When a student searches for a tutor, they will see a list of tutors where their profile picture is front and center, so it’s important to make sure your picture is a good one! Some things to consider when choosing a profile picture:

  • Make sure the image is high quality, not blurry or pixelated.

  • Ensure you are the only subject in the photo

  • Ensure you are not too far away in the shot, so users can clearly see your face.

  • Dress professionally, no sunglasses!

  • If you tutor online, consider taking a photo at your tutoring set up

2 - Your profile bio

Once a student has found your profile, the next part is making sure your bio can give all the information a student needs to make the decision to book lessons with you. A good bio should include a little bit about yourself, your tutoring background & experience, your tutoring style, what students can expect from lessons with you and, if relevant, what exam boards you cover. Consider formatting this into different sections with paragraph titles for students to easily find the information they are looking for.

3 - Your Tagline

While you only have a few words to use, try to make your tagline as unique as possible. ‘Experienced Tutor’ or ‘Friendly Tutor’ does the job, but often does not stand out as these taglines are commonly used. Try to use some additional adjectives to succinctly describe your tutoring style in your tagline.

4 - Your Subjects

Ensure you are not offering too many different subjects. We’ve found students are generally looking for a more specilaised tutor, rather than one who can offer tutoring in many subjects. We recommend offering no more than 2-3 ‘core’ subjects, though you are of course encouraged to offer a variety of levels within those subjects.

5 - Your Availability

We understand that your availability may be fixed, but where possible we recommend ensuring that you have as much availability added as possible. When a student visits your profile, they will see your availability calendar to choose a lesson time. If the time they want is not available, they may choose to look elsewhere. Rather than setting limited availability and offering to be flexible, we’ve found it’s much more successful to offer as much availability as possible up front.
