The uCheck application process

You'll need an Enhanced DBS is order to apply and work for Tutorful. If you're applying to be a tutor with us, we'll give you a link in order to apply for one with our partner, uCheck, if you haven't uploaded an acceptable check during the application process, and we're happy to proceed with your application. If you've tutored with us in the past and would like to do so again, just reach out to our Engagement team on Live Chat or at support@tutorful.co.uk, and we'll be happy to send you a link!

Once the check is done, you will receive the document in the post, at which point you'd just need to upload an image of it to your Tutorful account.

When clicking on the link, you'll be invited to fill out the application for a Enhanced DBS, and once you've completed it and paid, uCheck will ask you to download either the Post Office app or Yoti in order to complete a digital ID verification. We would recommend completing this, as doing so can significantly speed up your application! However, it is not mandatory, so don't worry if you aren't able to verify your identification through the Digital ID service. We can instead verify the ID documents you've provided manually.

If you complete your ID verification using the digital ID route, you'll only need to provide two documents, your passport and driver's licence, however we would recommend providing an additional proof of address document in case there are any issues when completing the Digital ID process. Once that's complete we will then countersign your application, before it is passed to your local authority to conduct a background check.

Application process - acceptable documents

If the digital ID verification is not completed or indeed, cannot be completed: Don't worry, we can still verify your identity manually. To do this, we'd need at least 3 documents from you - a photo ID document, a proof of address document and an additional document that can be either another photo ID or proof of address. As such, we would recommend uploading three documents that meet these requirements during the application process, and below is an image of the documents that we can accept:

Application process - the next steps

Once your application is with your local authority, you can get in touch with us and ask for an update and we'll give you an 'E-Code' that you can provide to the Disclosure and Barring Service, who will then be able to give you further updates. Please note that once the application has reached the DBS service, we won't be able to provide any further updates, so we would recommend reaching out to the DBS service to check the status of your check once you've received your DBS E-Code!

What do I do once I've got my check?

After that, you'll just need to take a photo or scan the document, and upload it to your Tutorful account. For instructions on how to upload your document you can have the look at this article: For Tutors - How do I upload my DBS check?

In the image you upload, please make sure we can see everything from the certificate number down to the fifth box titled "Other Relevant Information..etc". You don't need to include the white part at the top of the certificate that just includes your address - excluding this will help the certificate fit into a normal picture or A4 scan!
