All tutors must disclose any convictions or cautions they may have to Tutorful, including any criminal convictions or cautions received at any time after having registered a tutor account on the Website and for as long as the Tutor remains registered.
If your DBS certificate discloses information, Tutorful will consider the following factors before making a decision regarding the application:
Where the caution or conviction is relevant to the position as a private tutor
The seriousness of any offence or other matter revealed
The length of time since the offence or other matter occurred
Whether there has been a repeating pattern of offending or other relevant behaviours
The following cautions or convictions will always result in a tutor application being rejected:
Any kind of violence including (but not limited to) threatening behaviour, offences concerning the intention to harm or offences which resulted in actual bodily harm.
Offences listed in the Sex Offences Act 2003
The unlawful supply of controlled substances or drugs where the conviction concerns drug dealing, trafficking, or possession with intent to supply
Offences involving firearms, knives and weapons
Offences involving arson
Offences listed in the Terrorism Act 2006
Offences involving deception or fraud
Offences involving harm of a minor in any way
For one-off offences, we may accept tutors onto the site if their one-off caution or conviction was more than X years ago, as below:
10 years - Drugs, Theft
5 years - Driving offences
Please note, if your DBS check is not completely clean, we reserve the right to reject your application to tutor with us.
